As Above, So Beneath

Private View: 29th September 6.30pm

The Chopping Block is proud to present ‘As Above, So Beneath’, Zuza Mengham’s first solo show of 2016. An experiential, edifying display of geometric abstractions and sculptural forms that challenge perceived notions of anthropological artifacts.

Based on a preoccupation with materials, form and ancient narratives, Mengham projects a sculptural idiom that explores a connection between the traditional and industrial, manipulating points of catalysis and material behavior in order to produce her angular, gem-like structures that offer infinite outcomes.

Through a process that explores the scientific natures of resin – from its infant liquid state to its then solid form – Mengham associates antithetical forms of knowledge directly to the processes of her production, from medieval Hermeticism to tragic cycles of mythology that relate entirely to the volatility and fragility of each individual piece.
